“The Zuckerman single manual harpsichord was built with the help of two friends, Ron and Bob Schacht (whose
variety of power saws shaped the innards and his drill press made the essential alignment of the pins in the pin block possible!) during the summer between my junior and senior years of undergrad school. The keys are
handcut cherry wood, the case is American walnut, the soundboard is Swiss birch, and the all-important plectra, which determines the string tone, I individually hand shaped from the highest quality leather. And yes,
its the same Zuckerman design used for many years by the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera House. My performances of Baroque music were greatly enhanced by its warm, clear, supportive sonority.” |
